Start An Online Pet Store – Make Big Money With The Pet Niche

When you start an online pet store, you are not only helping animal lovers get the best for their pets, but you are getting into a niche where you can make big dollars.  Most pet owners love lavishing attention on their pets. This billion-dollar industry is hot for the right person to get into now.

Be it a dog, cat, birds, fish…you name it, someone out there has it as a pet.

Why Start An Online Pet Store

Animals are magnificent creatures that help people get over many difficult situations. Pets make great companions as well help to draw in compassion for the person they belong to.

Most people love to shower their pets with organic food to diamond collars.

We have a dog. He’s a pampered pet. His food is brought in specifically for needs, his winter coat is made of the warmest cloth you can think. He also gets his grooming done once a month at one of the top groomers in town.

This is a billion-dollar niche and is only going to continue to grow. Now is the time to start an online pet store.

  • This niche study is done based on the US population.

  • 51,000,000  men have pets
  • 81,000,000 women have pets

In 2018 people in the States spent $72.38 billion on their pets.

The estimated expenditure for 2019 is $75.38 Estimated, it has increased by $3 billion.

People love their pets. There are an estimated 180 million dogs and cats in the U.S. alone. That’s not even mentioning all the snakes, guinea pigs, parrots, and other more exotic creatures people keep as companions. And if you’ve been to a pet store lately, you know that pet owners will spare no expense and will buy just about anything pet-relate. Gourmet dog food, pet toys, healthy treats, Heck, I’ve even seen dog strollers and cat leashes. I’m also sure there are a lot of dogs out there that eat better than I do! Maybe a bit silly, but there you go.

The reality is many people treat their pets and spend more on their pets than they do on themselves, and this is a niche market that is only growing bigger and bigger each year.

Why Is the Pet Niche In Demand

The pet niche is in demand because some people like to have the company of their pets. But they also like to dote on their pets just as much. When I go outside, usually there are at least 5 people walking their dog, just on our street alone. Almost like every home has a pet.

Elderly people can often be found having pets for companionship, instead of being home alone, they prefer having the company of a dog or cat. Having a pet serves their need to

  • Cherish
  • Love
  • Fight boredom

Other people like to have pets to socialize. When people are out walking their dogs, they tend to engage in conversations with other people walking their dogs. You can be apart of this phenomenal way of helping others meet.

Animals are beautiful and exciting. Animal-loving people will always find them attractive no matter what kind of animal it is. Some people love to watch animals and what better way than to have one of their own, even better for you is to provide products to fulfill the needs of the pet.

Just by searching “how to care for your pet” in Google, I noticed over 1,000,000,000 results are showing up.

Point is people love their pets!

  2. I am interested in starting my own business, but never in a million years would I have thought to start an online pet store. I knew the pet industry was big, but not that big. It is huge, which is a good thing. You really break down how to do it. You give the audience to target and everything, plus domain names and all. This is really good information.

You piqued my interest and I may look into doing this in the near future. I haven’t had a pet in my home for sometime now, he lives with my mom, but when I did I spent a lot of money on him. He’s a standard short haired Chihuahua. I spoiled him as if I had him myself. I bought beds, sweaters, a ton of treats, and different types of food. He even got presents for his birthday, yes, I know his birthday, and Christmas. I never thought about there being people out there like me.

This is a great idea, starting an online pet store seems to be a great niche. You know there is nothing challenging in the online space like finding the right niche. According to this article, this niche seems to grow more and more with time. I wasn’t aware that this industry could be worth that huge sum of money. Thanks

  4. You’ve offered some great ideas hee, not just for potential profitable niches in the pet care field, but also for possible domain names and starting points for content. More and more people want to treat their pets as one of the family and spend on them in the same way they would a child so I think you’re right, this field is only going to generate more and more money. Good post, thanks for sharing.

  5. Thanks Jag. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. We brought home a new pet in July this year and I’ve been capturing her in photos since she was a tiny puppy. I bought an amazing domain name to do exactly what you’ve suggested – start an online pet store – but I haven’t had a lot of time to write content.

I suppose my hesitation has been because I don’t have a lot of time to blog as I have other sites that require content to be written, I was considering just making it an e-commerce store, but I don’t know if that will work? I don’t know how much content an e-commerce store will require or whether I need to actually create long posts for all the items I want to promote. I don’t know the answer! And I wish I had more hours in the day to get this site up and running because I know it would be a really fun one and potentially quite a lucrative one.

    Cheers

    Melissa

    • You can make it an e-commerce store, just attach a blog.  But with e-commerce you will be in charge of everything.  I personally like affiliate sites. Much easier to take care of as well no headache to deal with.

  6. Hello Jag, I must say that this article is very helpful and informative. I am an affiliate marketer who plans to start a blog related to pets and you helped me to achieve my success even sooner. I really did not know that statistics are so good when it comes to pets.

  7. I’ve just read your review and would like to say that I looked at building a site which explains and demonstrates my love for Labradors, we used to have 2 at home until mid 2019, now we are down to 1

In the UK where I’m from, pets are big business, dog in particular. People just love dogs and most treat them as if they’re human, I know we do that.

Mine is now 9 years old but has the character and behavior of a puppy.

I initially wanted to start a site while just posting my photos and video clips of them but then figured I could put those out on snap sharing platform.

There really is so many ideas within the pet niche that it would take some thought to come up with a particular direction to take it in.
